Teeing Up for Those Who Served
Telos Actuarial joins the At Ease USA golf outing — and why it mattered beyond the fairway. ⛳
At Telos Actuarial, we spend our days working with numbers — risks, probabilities, outcomes. But some statistics are harder to sit with than others. In Nebraska alone, the suicide rate among veterans is more than twice that of the general population. That number stayed with us when we signed on to volunteer at the At Ease USA golf outing, and it's the reason we'd do it again without hesitation.
About At Ease USA
At Ease USA is an Omaha-based nonprofit doing remarkable work for those who have given so much. The organization provides confidential, research-supported, cost-effective treatment for post-traumatic stress (PTS), moral injury, suicidal ideation, and trauma — serving veterans, active duty service members, frontline healthcare workers, and their loved ones, regardless of their ability to pay.
"Seventeen veterans die by suicide every day nationally. At Ease USA exists to change that — one person, one family, one community at a time."
What sets At Ease USA apart is its commitment to removing every barrier between someone in need and the care they deserve. Confidentiality, no financial gatekeeping, and a wide range of evidence-based therapies — from one-on-one counseling and trauma-informed yoga to equine therapy and peer support groups — make At Ease USA a lifeline for people who might otherwise fall through the cracks.
A day on the green for a greater good
The golf outing was a wonderful blend of community, competition, and purpose. Our team showed up ready to help — whether that meant registering players, staffing holes, sponsoring a team, cheering on participants, or simply being present and spreading awareness about the vital services At Ease USA provides. Golf has a way of bringing people together, and events like this remind us that behind every swing, there's a story — and often, a cause worth swinging for.
Beyond the fun, these fundraising events are a direct lifeline for At Ease USA's programs. Every dollar raised helps fund therapy sessions, support groups, and outreach initiatives across Nebraska and western Iowa, including rural communities where mental health resources are critically scarce.
Why this cause resonates with us
The actuarial profession is built on understanding risk and protecting people from its consequences. Volunteering with At Ease USA felt like a natural extension of that mission — not in a spreadsheet, but in the real world, where the stakes are lives. The people At Ease USA serves have often carried enormous risk on behalf of all of us. It felt right to show up for them.
We're proud to be part of a community that rallies around organizations like At Ease USA. If you're looking for a way to give back — whether through volunteering, donating, or simply spreading the word — we encourage you to learn more about At Ease USA's work at ateaseusa.org. The cause is urgent. The need is real. And the time we spent giving our time brought us so much joy.
