Tracy Emrich, Consultant
Tracy wears multiple hats at Telos. She advises clients on insurance and advertising compliance. Tracy creates and edits our Insurance Regulatory Insights newsletters. She also brightens our day with her chicken and goat stories!
We are fortunate to work with Tracy at Telos, and we always look forward to seeing what she'll come up with next!
The business side…
What led you to pursue this career path? Pure chance! I worked as a nurse for three years before returning to school to get a degree in business. I applied for several entry level positions at Mutual of Omaha, with the regulatory compliance department taking a chance on me. I joined CSG Actuarial in 2014 to lead compliance services, and the rest is history!
What is the best piece of career advice you have been given? No matter what role you have or what company you work for, you can always make a positive impact.
What has been your most rewarding professional experience so far? Defining, designing, and implementing an electronic application tool for Medicare Supplement Insurance.
What is the most stressful part of your job? The unpredictability of each state insurance department and their reviewers.
How do you approach your work/life balance? I am thankful for Telos Actuarial and their key value of putting people first!
Do you feel you have a specific area of expertise in your field? Medicare Supplement and Supplemental Health (Hospital Indemnity, Accident, Critical Illness) products.
What behavior or personality trait do you most attribute to your success and why? Intrinsic motivation. I value doing good work and getting things done.
What is one professional skill you are currently working on? Process Improvement. Work smarter, not harder!
Do you have any specific goals or milestones you are striving to achieve? In this season of life, I want to help Telos expand and improve services, while also enjoying my family.
What is one piece of advice you would give someone just starting out in your same career path? There are public access insurance compliance resources available. Use these to your advantage!
Do you have a professional book that you would recommend everyone read? Great by Choice - Jim Collins
And the personal side…
What is your favorite food? I love fruit, especially strawberries and peaches. Favorite restaurant? I enjoy cooking and have found I can replicate our favorite restaurant foods for much cheaper at home!
What is the coolest thing you’ve ever made? I am a novice chicken farmer. Chickens are incredibly messy, and I needed a solution to keep drinking water off the ground. Using a rain barrel, I built an automatic waterer that has made my chicken chores much more enjoyable! Next project is a goat shelter!
What was your first job? I bagged groceries for Hy-vee
What is the best vacation you have ever taken? My husband and I bike-packed the Katy Trail in Missouri. There is nothing better than beautiful mid-west scenery while pushing physical limits!
Do you have any siblings? I have one younger sister.
What is your favorite holiday and why? I am not a big holiday person. Our holidays are usually reserved for home improvement projects, done together as a family.
What is your guilty pleasure? A long nap.
What is something that always makes you smile? My children and animals.
Where did you grow up? Omaha, Nebraska
What is your favorite season and why? Fall - beautiful colors, fantastic weather, and open windows.
