Teya Trujillo, Actuarial Analyst
Teya has been with Telos for three years! She is a strong, approachable mentor and is the leader of our internship program. We are pleased that Teya is a part of our team and look forward to watching her continued growth!
The business side…
What led you to pursue this career path? As my first opportunity post-undergraduate, I was able find a career that combined my passion for mathematics and taking on new challenges.
What is the best piece of career advice you have been given? If you weren’t ready, you would not have the opportunity and if you weren’t capable, you wouldn't have the desire.
What has been your most rewarding professional experience so far? Working towards completing my ASA.
What is the most stressful part of your job? Trying to navigate our S: Drive.
Do you have a professional mentor? I would consider everyone listed here as a mentor to me in one way or another.
How do you approach your work/life balance? Life first, then work. (And the occasional walk during lunch).
Do you feel you have a specific area of expertise in your field? Here at Telos we primarily work on Medicare supplement. However, this past year I have loved getting to learn more about Hospital Indemnity and Dental products.
What behavior or personality trait do you most attribute to your success and why? Perseverance – The line to success is not linear.
What is one professional skill you are currently working on? Clear and concise communication through one on ones and emails.
Do you have any specific goals or milestones you are striving to achieve? I am currently pursuing my ASA.
What is one piece of advice you would give someone just starting out in your same career path? Be present through each step of the exam process.
Do you have a professional book that you would recommend everyone read? Atomic Habits “Never miss twice.” – James Clear
And the personal side…
What is your favorite food? Tacos Favorite restaurant? Tacos. Shout out to Mula right here in Omaha.
What is the coolest thing you’ve ever made? A Benjamin Franklin puppet in 1st grade. I even think they still use it as an example for new classes.
What was your first job? Cashier at a local fruit stand back home in Utah.
What is the best vacation you have ever taken? Summer 2024 I road tripped from Omaha to Phoenix AZ. Stopping in Denver, Moab, Bryce Canyon, and Zion along the way.
Do you have any siblings? I have one older sister.
What is your favorite holiday and why? It is a toss-up between Christmas and the 4th of July. Every Christmas my family and I make homemade tamales, and I love a good barbeque followed by a firework show on the 4th of July.
What is your guilty pleasure? Mula chips and queso
What is something that always makes you smile? Seeing my friends/colleagues achieve their goals!
Where did you grow up? Ogden, Utah
What is your favorite season and why? Fall, I love a good hoodie.
What is the first concert you ever attended? The 1975 How about the best concert? Pitbull
What is the bravest thing you ever did? Swimming with the sharks in Hawaii.
