Telos Meet the Interns:
Zee, Logan, and Josie -
2026 Interns
We are thrilled to welcome this talented group of students to our summer internship program this year!
We are committed to investing in the next generation of professionals while bringing fresh perspectives and energy into our work. Our interns will be contributing to real projects, learning from our team, and gaining hands-on experience in the actuarial field.
We look forward to a fantastic summer with these three!
Let’s learn a little bit more about our interns -
Zee
Where did you grow up? I grew up just outside of Cincinnati, Ohio.
Do you have any siblings? I have one younger sister who just finished her freshman year of college where she is studying Elementary Education.
What led you to pursue an actuarial degree? I have always loved math, and as I grew up, I realized more and more that my passion lies in statistics. My grandfather and my youth leader at church were both actuaries, so having them to talk to as I honed in on my personal interests showed me how rewarding a career in the field could be.
What is the best piece of advice you have been given? "What if it all works out?" - Momma Thrush. She was always telling my family and I to keep pushing, and try new things, and trust that the cards would fall into place and that hard or unclear decisions would be rewarded. Innately, I want to predict the future and know my outcomes (hence being an actuary) and this piece of advice has always been freeing and reassuring throughout my life.
What has been your favorite college class and why? My favorite class so far at UNL has been ACTS 440. I got to take that class with some of my best friends today, like Logan! I also got an amazing introduction into the mathematical side of Actuarial Science from the best professor, Sue Vagts. It didn't hurt to get credit for the FM Exam through the class either!
What is something that always makes you smile? Winning at anything - even when it may not actually be a competition.
Logan
Where did you grow up? I grew up in Morrison, Colorado
Do you have any siblings? I am the youngest of three, I have a brother (oldest) and a sister (middle)
What led you to pursue an actuarial degree? I originally wanted to do finance until I toured UNL and discovered the actuarial science program. After learning more about actuarial science I decided it was a better choice than finance because it offered more math and challenged me more. I am still a dual major with actuarial science and finance.
What is the best piece of advice you have been given? The best piece of advice I have been given is my dad telling me to "be cool"; he always tells me and my siblings this when we need to play it cool. It's not super philosophical, but it's something that always sticks with me.
What has been your favorite college class and why? My favorite class I have taken at UNL has been ACTS 440 Interest Theory. I loved this class because it was the firsts actsci class I took and it gave me UEC credit for exam FM. This is also where I met Zee!
What is something that always makes you smile? Something that always makes me smile is a colorful landscape, whether it's a green golf course or a mountainside full of green trees and different colored flowers. The beauty and warm weather that are associated with the colors are the reason it always makes me smile.
Josie
Where did you grow up? I grew up in Omaha, and I’ve lived here all my life.
Do you have any siblings? I have one younger sister who is going to be a sophomore in college.
What led you to pursue an actuarial degree? I originally wanted to become a pharmacist, but after taking AP Statistics my senior year of high school, I immediately knew I wanted to do something with the subject in college. I was very fortunate to have a great teacher for that statistics class who helped me land on actuarial science as the right path for me.
What is the best piece of advice you have been given? One of the best pieces of advice I’ve received was to ignore feelings of doubt that I didn’t belong in certain spaces or that I was too underqualified to apply for certain jobs. I have found that the saying “You miss 100% of the shots you never take” is very true. Imposter syndrome is unfortunately very common for women to experience in STEM fields, and I’ve been working hard to overcome that feeling in myself.
What has been your favorite college class and why? One of my favorite classes I took at UNL was an art history class my freshman year. It was so different from all my other classes, but I found it incredibly interesting and very easy to be engaged with. It was the perfect balance for my overwhelmingly STEM focused classes.
What is something that always makes you smile? Something that always makes me smile is my cat Jackson! He’s 14 years old and my family adopted him about 4 years ago. He is the nicest, calmest, most tolerant cat I’ve ever met, and in my opinion, the cutest too.
