Hospital Indemnity Growth in 2025
In May, we shared an early look at growth in the Hospital Indemnity market, with some observations about the top five carriers. We followed that up with a look at recent Hospital Indemnity new product filings. Today we’re digging a little deeper into the senior Hospital Indemnity market and how that has changed over time.
Market Size
After topping $2 billion in earned premium for the first time in 2024, the market stayed above that threshold in 2025. Total earned premium did drop a little (from $2.18 billion to $2.09 billion), but the inforce policy count grew from 2.8 million to 2.9 million. One conclusion is that growth came faster for lower-premium plans.
Senior Market
A particularly interesting highlight is the proportion of the market made up by senior-focused products. Over the last decade, senior products have steadily grown from 7-8% of the market to 11% of earned premium and 17% of inforce in 2025! This growth came alongside rapid growth in Medicare Advantage business.
